Slimmer Size: Bottled Water

Slimmer Size: Bottled Water

When I think of bottled water I automatically think of it being cleaner then tap water. Which tests have proved its not. I also always remember a story I read about. Although this is a one off incident. One time there was a lady that got a drink of water from her tap, after drinking it she started to feel ill. She went to hospital and doctors discovered that somehow high traces of mercury had gotten into the water. Now she can’t remember anything because mercury has damaged her brain cells.

Even normal day to day things, she has to write them down in order to remember to do them. And that is a true story which always makes me slightly paranoid to drink tap water unless it’s been boiled. Bottled water certainly has become popular. If you go to any store you will see loads of different brands then you can keep track of. I do drink quite a few bottles. Mainly I get it if I am out and not near home to get a drink of water. If I am out walking or exercising and don't have a water source near by.

Is bottled water a rip off?
The quick answer is yes. There is nothing special about it. The only thing that is good about it is how the companies have marketed it. They tell us it is the best thing since sliced bread. It is something we all should drink. You have to keep in mind that these companies are in the business of making money, and they want your money. Their goal is to sell you bottled water. Even if you don't get any benefit from it.

Is bottled water better for you than tap water?
No, it certainly isn't. In fact, most bottled water is actually just tap water. It is filtered and purified so it doesn't have that metal taste that the water from your tap has. Anything that will get you to drink more water is a good thing. Though, you must realize that it is nothing more than a waste of your hard earned money. You aren't getting something special that your body will notice when it gets it. Tests have shown that bottled water is almost identical to tap water.

You have to watch what you buy also. Some bottled water has other ingredients added to it. Sometimes they will add sugar or other flavourings to it. If it doesn't taste like normal water, there is most probably something added to it. Sometimes the water will come from a spring or a mountain river. Is this any better for you? Not really. There might be a few minerals in it that tap water doesn’t have. But mostly, it is just the same, just more expensive.

You like the taste of bottled water but you don't like the taste of your tap water. What do you do?

Well, there are many products that you can use to filter your tap water. One of my favourites is the Brita Marella and Brita Elemaris filter jugs. I'm sure you have seen these on television before. When you pour the water, it goes through a filter.

These tend to be less expensive and extremely easy to use. It doesn't take much thinking to fill a jug with water. There are also filters that you can put right over your tap. These are widely regarded as the best thing to use. They are easy to use and easy to replace the filters. There is also the water filtering system. These are used with pellets. Personally, I think these are the worse and there definitely not recommended. I don't know why people get these instead of the smaller tap units, which are cheap these days. I know that some people have to use these because of how bad their water is. Sometimes the water is too hard and needs to be softened.

If you don't like the taste of your tap water, have a go of filling up the empty bottles that you have from the bottled water with tap water. Stick them in the freezer and get them ice cold. You will notice that when cold, the water tastes different. You might find this tolerable. I know your wallet will be happier for it.

The problem I see with bottled water is the price. They charge a high price for something you can get for next to nothing. Make me think, why should you pay for it? Well, you shouldn't really.

Stop drinking bottled water for a month and see how much money you save. I find it a sad fact that there are people around the world dying of starvation and disease and we pay at least a dollar, a pound, whatever your currency is for a bottle of water. That seems crazy.

A huge percentage of our bodys are made up of water. So it's very important to keep stocks high. Fridges and within the body itself.
